A winner

This is a very brief post just to thank you so much for all your comments on my giveaway post sharing your foodie memories and associations  -  I loved reading them all, and what was sadly striking was how so many of our foods are associated with memories of parents or grandparents who are no longer here…and how impossible it is to recreate something in exactly the way they made it.

Salamanda is our winner who had her own recollection:

I remember my dad making us French Toast when we were little and it was delicious. I think it was the only thing he could make then. Sadly he died almost 10 years ago and I recently was thinking abou him and tried to recreate it but it just did not taste how I remembered it.

Salamanda, do send me your address either here or via DM on Instagram and I'll get the fabrics posted off to you. Thanks so much to Elephant in my Handbag for providing the gorgeous fabric bundle - remember, you can get 10% off anything that you buy in the EimH shop using the code 'FLOSSIE' at the checkout.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,
Florence x

  1. Florence, I was wondering if you had heard of the new laws regarding VAT for digital services - including pdfs, ebooks and blog ads? The new laws mean that VAT will be charged for all purchasers in the EU depending on their location and what their countries rate is. The seller is responsible for collecting the VAT from them. The current VAT threshold for the UK will not count in other countries, and you will have to collect and pass on VAT for every sale no matter how small if it is out of the UK and in the EU. You can read about it on Bugs and Fishes blog here, she includes other links http://bugsandfishes.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/pressing-pause-on-pdfs-blog-ads.html
and there is also useful info here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/DigitalVAT2015/permalink/1504948956449082/

It will come into place 1st January. The information given out by HMRC seems to be a work in progress and advice changes.

    1. The knitting designer Ysolda Teague did a very detailed post about it on her blog, after going to a meeting with someone from HMRC: http://ysolda.com/blog/2014/11/26/they-didnt-know-the-impact-of-vatmoss-on-really-small-businesses

  2. You should listen to the BBC Money programme which aired on Saturday. Some info regarding HMRCs VAT mimi one stop shop. Quite an amusing piece but HMRC seem to be catching up. It's on iplayer radio.

  3. I will DM you via IG, very excited.

  4. Thank you so much for thinking of me re: VATMOSS - that's so thoughtful - I really appreciate it. I was aware of the situation, but hadn't mentioned it as I was hoping it would resolve itself and that I could just transfer my patterns over to Etsy. I'm not entirely sure that will happen now, so will be taking my patterns down for the foreseeable future. x
